Beyond the standard route

Authentic tailor-made travel, also with a baby or toddler

With Southeast Asia as my second home, I find the most beautiful places and unique stays, from luxury to simple and far from the crowds and big resorts. With the perfect balance of nature, culture, beach, cities and delicious food. For couples, friends and families.

Everyone goes to the same places

Asia is more popular than ever, but almost everyone follows the same route. The result: crowds, high prices and long TikTok queues for the best photos, while every country has so much more to offer!

No time to dig through it all

Between work and everything else going on, hours of research just aren't an option.

No bus full of tourists

You want to travel authentically, to places that aren't in every itinerary yet.

How long can a travel day be? Where do you sleep well with a little one? That's what I know best.
What Budaya stands for

Travelling with respect, care and a little adventure

Budaya stands for listening to what matters to you as a traveller and what you'd love, and finding the perfect trip and stays to match. Whether that's a luxury private villa, or sleeping with a local tribe in the jungle.

Budaya also stands for seeing a country's highlights, but with tips for the most authentic and local experience possible, and surprising suggestions for other places and islands.

Budaya means culture in Malay, the language of the country where my love for Asia began.

Speciality

Travelling with a baby or toddler

A long-haul trip with a little one sounds daunting. I did it myself: five weeks in Thailand with our six-month-old daughter. I know which places work, how to keep travel days short and what you really need.

  • Travel days planned around naps
  • Stays with space, a cot and ideally a pool
  • Packing list and tips from experience

About Janieke

Hi, I'm Janieke

“Where do you find these places?” I get asked that on every trip. Most people only know the famous spots in Asia. And then the places we stay: beautiful, special, and often not expensive at all. Usually one more line follows: “I want a trip like that too.” My favourite find? Sulawesi. Amazing, and still so undiscovered. I don't understand why everyone keeps going to Bali.

Searching for those places is in my blood. I studied International Tourism, lived in Malaysia for two years and worked in Kuala Lumpur as a local agent for TUI. After that, as a buyer for Eliza was Here, I searched for the most unique places. And I feel just as at home underwater: as a divemaster I've done more than 500 dives, all over the world. Now I'm turning my passion into my profession.

I'm a mum now, and that hasn't stopped us travelling. When our daughter was six months old, we spent five weeks travelling through Thailand. The best decision ever. People still ask me for my tips. Now I share them professionally, so you can have an unforgettable trip too.

“There's so much more to see!”
