Indonesia: more than Bali
Thousands of islands, each with its own culture. Most travellers only see the south of Bali, but Indonesia has so much more: volcanoes on Java, rice terraces, quiet beaches and villages where time seems to stand still.

Where to go in Indonesia?
Java
Volcanoes, the temples of Borobudur and Prambanan, and the cultural heart of Yogyakarta.
Bali
Not just crowds: in the north and east you'll find peace, rice fields and waterfalls.
Lombok and the Gili Islands
White beaches, clear water and a lot quieter than Bali.
Sulawesi
My favourite, and still so undiscovered. The Toraja highlands with a culture you won't see anywhere else, and the Togian Islands with calm, clear water for snorkelling.
